Medieval Rumbling on Cobblestones!

You may be a knight or a young maid, you may represent the peasantry or the nobility, but after Midsummer, it is time for you to dive into to the Middle Ages. The Medieval Market will take over the surroundings of the Old Great Square in Turku 30 June-3 July 2011.

History will be relived in an authentic environment during four days. The market stalls, which offer anything you can imagine for medieval needs, create an intensive market atmosphere. You can find, for example, food to fill your stomach and ancient beer to wash down your throat as well as products made by skilful handicraftsmen.



Both amateurs and professional performers constribute to creating the market atmosphere. Various groups, jokers and musicians will take the visitors back in time, i.e. to the Medieval Turku. Persons representing all classes of society, from the nobility to the peasantry, will of course be present in the hustle and bustle of the market.

The work exhibition area, where skilful handicraftsmen show their medieval working methods, is an essential part of the market. The visitors can watch the making of handicrafts and the work of a blacksmith at his forge or smell the steam of ancient beer and touch fresh tannage.

The Tournament Yard offers amusement and competitions for the adventurous market visitors. You can watch the jousting event and even try out your own skills as a knight. You can also watch the medieval people preparing for the evenings shows at the Tournament Yard. The whole family will enjoy the medieval entertainment.
